Ved movie review: Riteish Deshmukh-Genelia D'Souza's film is beautiful but could've been immensely powerful
The movie could have ended a little earlier and it would’ve still been powerful.

Satya is madly in love with Nisha. One day, she leaves him. Unable to accept the reality, Satya looks to alcohol to numb the pain. Shravani marries him despite his image in and outside his family. Can she put up with his pain from the past?
Ved (Crazy) is a film that is miles apart from what crazy means. The movie is beautiful and heartwarming. However, it could have been extremely powerful and a story that would bring a twist to the film it is adapted from.
Riteish Deshmukh in the role of Satya is the perfect mix of Kabir Singh and Chulbul Pandey as a lover. His frustration and will to get into fights and kill is pretty evident and the actor is seamless in his character.
Ashok Saraf in the role of his father, Mr. Dinkar, is a cutie. He is also a pleasant surprise and his acting skill is just on point as always.
Genelia D'Souza's entry in the film as Shravani is unique and pretty. She is extremely adorable as his wife. She narrating her side of falling in love is extremely beautiful.
Ashok and Genelia's bond is the best thing to happen to the film. Them bringing Jodha-Akbar, Salim and Anarkali is natural and entertaining. The movie has hilarious moments that make it beyond watchable.
In the second half, Riteish and Genelia become extremely adorable. They have their moments – both heartbreaking and loving. Riteish's scene with sign language is like a cherry on the top of a delicious cake.
The song Besuri perfectly shows the bond between Satya and Shravani. The song also sees how their relationship has evolved over the years, making it an important track in the film.
Jiya Shankar in the role of Nisha has a brief yet lasting role. She comes back in the form of memories and all of them leave you smiling.
Ved has equal amounts of comedy and action. Every actor nails the scenes that require both.
Riteish and Genelia's bond, as one would expect, is the highlight of this cutely wrapped gift of a movie. The two tend to overpower the other but still leave you rooting for them as a couple.
The movie sees a drastic change and even if it gives off the Majili vibes, there's always more to Ved than what the Naga Chaitanya-Samantha's film offered. The end of this movie is so similar.
Ved Lavlay, as one would expect, is the end credit song. Salman has a surprise for everyone apart from the song and every Bhai fan will be left whistling.
Ved is a beautiful film. It is better than Majili in many places. The movie, however, sticks to the adaptation. This is even when Ved could have ended many scenes before, making it more powerful than it currently is. Nonetheless, this movie is hilarious and action-packed aka a masala entertainer everyone loves seeing.

Movie reviews are all marketing gimmick in our country where a 3rd rated copy of Hollywood Superman movie like Pathan does multi hundred crore business and people are least interested with simple and soothing stories like Ved with an superb acting by Genelia D'Souza (this is my first Genelia film) also out of typical multistarer comedy by Ritesh after long time.

one of the movies which are better than the originals. Majili is original and has its own essence, but Ved touches your soul more deeply. The actors did really well, saw them together after a long. The song "Besuri Me" was OUTSTANDING.
The kid wins hearts here.

Ved may have multiple shortcomings. in fact, there is a high probability that many viewers will be offended by the movie's underlying messaging; however, the manner in which it expressed human emotions and represented distinct characters and their dynamics is, at the very least, praiseworthy.
Regarding praises, Genelia D'Souza deserves the lion's share, in my humble viewpoint. She is unquestionably the heart and soul of the entire thing. Screenplay, storytelling; she immediately elevated everything upon her introduction. Not to mention, the score composed by Ajay-Atul helped her immensely towards accomplishing her objectives. It is difficult not to fall in love with the music, the character of Shravani and Genelia's almost flawless performance.
P.S. That little kid, Khushi , leaves an impression. She's a special talent, if given proper guidance, she could make a big name for herself in this field, I wish her the best.

Absolutely among the best theatrical experiences!
Just when I felt that Marathi cinema is losing its charm, VED surprises me. Even though it's an adaptation, it certainly is better than the original in various aspects, such as direction, cinematography, music, casting, dialogues, etc. Exceptional performances from the cast, especially Ashok Saraf (Mama).
Can't believe it was Ritesh Deshmukh's directorial debut, as the film looked very neat, especially the slo-mo shots and fight scenes.
Ritesh and Genelia are certainly among my favourite couples in the show business. Also, the chemistry is very strong between them. VED movie is definitely their best work. Would love to watch Ritesh directing more movies.

Review by anubhav2804 ★★★
My first Marathi film of the year and Ved was exactly how I envisioned it to be: a quintessential romantic drama featuring a straight forward story with a lot of masala, clichéd antagonist along with it's twists and turns visually elevated by the soulful music rendered by Ajay Atul. Riteish Deshmukh in this directorial venture has surely proven that he knows how to impress the masses and he does so convincingly. And before I forget, the chemistry between Riteish and Genelia is one to surely look out for. It really melted my heart. Overall, a proper romantic masala entertainer.

The title of the movie is so apt. "Ved" is an earnest & loyal remake. Such a feel-good, emotional and Romantic film from Marathi film industry after a very long time. Ajay-Atul's music and that title track is stuck in my head and I don't want it to go. This being Ritesh's directorial debut, he has done a fabulous job. Genelia and Jiya Shankar both have performed their roles pretty well. Overall a VED is a Fantastic Film and deserves all the praise and appreciation. Do watch it on Disney+Hotstar.

It explores love, mental health and relationships in an emotional way sure to move audiences worldwide.

Ved is an engaging drama with a meaningful message. Fans of Genelia Deshmukh and Riteish D’Souza should watch it, with its engaging story featuring some exciting twists towards its conclusion – perfect for family movie night with kids!
Critics have panned this film for its slow pace screenplay and narration; yet, it still managed to garner positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Grossing over Rs 2.25 crore on its opening day alone exceeded expectations and critics have lauded actors’ performances, cinematography and music as key points of praise from this production.

Ved is an intimate tale about madness and love. The film explores the insanity that comes with being in love, and the difficulty associated with breaking free of it. Starring Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh in leading roles, audiences have responded well to Ved. Audiences particularly appreciated its music – especially song ‘Besuri’ which adds an air of mystery and intrigue surrounding Genelia Deshmukh’s past story. Composed by Ajay-Atul Gogavale who also composed its lyrics and tune.
Riteish Deshmukh has assembled an outstanding cast for this movie that marks his directorial debut, featuring Genelia Deshmukh as female lead. A remake of Telugu language film Majili with Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead roles is set for release this week; audiences from across India should find this entertaining flick particularly attractive. It has been shot beautifully while its actors have delivered exceptional performances. The release date has also been confirmed.
This movie should be watched by everyone; it is an epic romantic drama with all the hallmarks of classic romance. The story centers around two people who fall in love and fight for each other while showing how love can change perspectives on life. Additionally, there are beautiful songs throughout and great chemistry between actors in this production.
Genelia fans must watch it as this is one of the top movies this year.
Ved has proven that remakes can work wonders when produced properly, giving hope to directors who were skeptical about creating one in the past. There could well be more remakes of Bollywood movies in Marathi in future.
Cinematography
Ved is an outstanding film that effectively tackles mental illness with grace and sensitivity, making it a must-see for everyone. Boasting an amazing cast and director, its cinematography further heightens its emotional impact while its hopeful message will leave viewers with an upbeat message of optimism and hopefulness.
Ved is a Marathi drama film written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh in his directorial debut for Mumbai Film Company banner. A remake of Telugu movie Majili, Ved explores love, mental health and stigma surrounding mental illnesses while raising awareness.
In the first half of this movie, Satya (Ritesh Vilasrao Deshmukh) lives as an inspiring cricketer while slowly building his love relationship with Nisha (Jia Shankar). When Nisha marries another man and leaves him heartbroken, his tragedy causes him to turn towards alcoholism until eventually losing his life – however his daughter Khushi (Baby Genelia Hajare) still cares deeply for him and works toward making him into a better person.
In the second half of the movie, we learn more about Shravani (Genelia D’Souza) and her struggle for normalcy. The movie shows her helping her father during his most trying moments while falling back in love with him again; director has done an outstanding job presenting both tales simultaneously; this makes the film an overall success on that front.
Though Riteish’s first feature film was an impressive debut, its screenplay and editing could have been better. Unfortunately, it suffers from numerous flaws in its second half that do not lead to an especially satisfying endpoint; nonetheless, performances by actors were outstanding while music provided catchy tunes throughout.
Cinematically, this film boasts of excellent cinematography with beautifully composed shots. However, editing by Chandan Arora leaves some scenes lingering too long; Ajay-Atul have come up with creative songs which make a statement; fans of the star couple should definitely catch this heartwarming tale with catchy tracks as it promises an enjoyable viewing experience.
Ved is Riteish Deshmukh’s debut as director and producer, as a remake of 2019 Telugu hit Majili starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha. Since its release, it has already become the highest grossing Marathi movie of 2019, garnering much praise from audiences around India.
This movie tells an intriguing tale of an innocent cricket-mad man and the woman he falls for, both fighting hard to prove their innocence and to maintain their relationship. With Ajay-Atul’s music chartbusting chart after chartbuster charting as composer and cinematography excelling and editing becoming sharp, audiences of all ages will surely enjoy watching this story come to life on screen.
Genelia Deshmukh gives an outstanding performance, particularly during scenes in which she can showcase her acting chops. Her eyes and expressions reveal much about her character, while she delivers long lines of dialogue flawlessly. Additionally, her rapport with Riteish is remarkable.
Jiya Shankar, an up-and-coming newcomer with an engaging screen presence and good screen presence. She exudes confidence and is natural in front of the camera, which makes for an enjoyable performance but needs improvement as an actor. Ashok Saraf is convincing as Satya’s father; Shubhankar Tawde excels as Jonty; Vinnet Sharma does an admirable job as Kumar; while child actress Khushi Hajare steals scenes.
Ved is an entertaining and captivating drama, boasting a strong cast and interesting concept. Performances by its main actors are compelling, and its director did an admirable job crafting its script. Ved makes for an invaluable addition to this year’s Marathi cinema releases; genre fans should definitely see it!

The Common Man Speaks
Ved (marathi movie) review – riteish deshmukh’s film is a family masala entertainer.
December 31, 2022 by Keyur Seta 4 Comments
Riteish Deshmukh’s directorial debut Ved is the official Marathi adaptation of the Telugu film Majili (2019), which starred Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
The movie starts off in a town in Maharashtra and it revolves around Satya (Riteish). He is an aspiring cricketer who is eager to play for the Railways and later for India. His father Dinkar (Ashok Saraf), who is a widower, is worried for his son but at the same time keeps supporting him, especially whenever their neighbor Murli (Vidyadhar Joshi) complaints against him.
Satya falls in love with a girl-next-door Nisha (Jiya Shankar) in an unusual manner. She too reciprocates her love for him. However, the two aren’t destined to be together. This leaves Satya depressed and he becomes a drunkard. At this moment, Shravani (Genelia Deshmukh) decides to marry him despite knowing that he still loves Nisha.
One of the major plus points of Ved is its fast pace. So much so that you don’t feel the close to two and a half hours of its runtime. Plus, if you haven’t seen the original, like me, there are quite a few surprises. To elaborate, of course, you can predict where the first half is headed if you have seen the trailer. But it is the small incidents, which lead to the end of the first half, that keep surprising and thereby entertaining you.
But there comes a moment in the second half where you wonder where all this is headed and whether Satya will become another Kabir Singh. But this is where the biggest surprise is in store in terms of the story development.
Ved is a family masala entertainer and hence, it should be seen that way in order to be enjoyed. And this means keeping logic aside during quite a few key moments in the film, including the surprise in the second half.
Although the creative liberty at some places is too high to ignore, Riteish’s presentation, along with a fast narrative and cinematographer Bhushankumar Jain’s visuals, makes the film enjoyable. It can be safely said that the actor succeeds as a director.
Ved is also helped by Ajay-Atul’s music. Despite the Sairat hangover, the title song turns out to be the best of the lot.
As far as his acting is concerned, this is one of Riteish’s most memorable performances. He is effective while displaying both the shades of the Satya (present day and flashback). Genelia Deshmukh struggles with her Marathi pronunciation but makes it up with her expressions and screen presence. Jiya Shankar comes across as natural and confident.
Ashok Saraf’s presence takes the entertainment quotient even higher. Vidyadhar Joshi complements him well through his sarcastic act. Raviraj Kande, as the evil Bhaskar Anna, is well introduced. But it’s surprising to see how the character, whose act had a great bearing on Satya, is treated unfairly later. Khushi Hajare, the child actress who plays Khushi, is likeable and confident.
Also read: Raj Thackeray asked me to play Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, says Akshay Kumar
The title song in the end featuring Salman Khan is a misfit and it somehow lowers the emotional impact of the film.
Overall: Ved succeeds in being an entertainer for the family during the holiday period, despite its flaws and some resemblance with Jersey .

The Marathi film Ved was released in theatres on today and the audience was hopeful of another project of one of the most loved Bollywood couples, Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza. The first few reactions from the Twitter audience speak positively of the film.
Inspired by the 2019 Telugu film Majili , Ved is produced by Genelia D'Souza and Ritesh Deshmukh debuts as a director with this film. The story of the film is about a former cricketer who depends on his wife financially and spends his day and night drinking and smoking, missing his ex-girlfriend whom he loved very much. He neglects the selfless love of his wife who supports him despite everything. However, there is a limit to which she can bear the heartbreak. The movie shows how they overcome the challenges in their relationship.

Vikram Vedha Review: Whistle-Worthy Film
A screenplay and superstar in perfect tandem, it doesn't get better than this, applauds Sukanya Verma.
Nothing in Vikram Vedha happens without reason.
But nearly all the events in the story have already transpired when Pushkar-Gayathri's riveting drama about cops and crooks engaged in a moral jugalbandi begins.
We discover the movie over a course of reactions, realisations and retaliation -- a masterstroke that elevates a generic right versus wrong conflict into an irresistible study in perspective.
Vikram Vedha gets its inspiration from the Betaal Pachisi mythology in which Ujjain's virtuous King Vikramaditya sets out to apprehend a freakish phantom at the behest of a sorcerer.
On their way back to the palace, Betaal narrates a story to the King only to pose a riddle at the end.
Answering it will result in Betaal's escape and restart the cycle of detaining him all over again, but the king has an unsatisfactory response to all his conundrums.
This happens a good 25 times, hence Pachisi , till Vikram learns the truth about the sorcerer as well as Betaal's true nature.
Back in 2017, director duo Pushkar-Gayathri spectacularly contemporised the concept to create a rousing spectacle of face-offs between moral quandaries.
What made it cooler was a pair of leading men born to play the part.
When I first saw the acclaimed Tamil hit, I was blown away by Vijay Sethupati's chameleon quick emotional agility.
When I watched it again, R Madhavan's brash confidence taking a hit held my rapt attention.
Living up to these impressions was never going to be easy for either Hrithik Roshan or Saif Ali Khan.
But Hrithik's gift for putting his own spin on beloved characters, be it Vijay Dinanath Chauhan or Vijay Sethupati's has held him in good stead.
Saif grows into the part as does the deceit within and around him.
Quite like his wardrobe of polo t-shirts changing colour from pure white to smoke grey to charcoal grey, dangerously close to all black, like the one worn by his adversary Vedha.
While the Hindi remake retains the original's creators, technicians, treacherous twists, karmic repercussions, existentialist woes, Sam C S's thumping background music and grubby vibe, its two heroes have an entirely fresh take on the material.
Often the difference between an original and its remake is that of handloom and nylon.
The new Vikram Vedha doesn't have the earlier Vikram Vedha 's raw, rooted swagger but it holds its own on the strength of wolf whistling stardom where even the sight of Hrithik's sandals and hand tossing kachori at a bunch of hungry Alsatians is bound to cause a frenzy among fans of robust masala.
Pushkar-Gayathri's 'if ain't broke, don't fix it' approach in a largely loyal remake seeks novelty by way of setting without losing the ' sur ' of its engrossing original.
The action shifts from Chennai to Lucknow whose architectural charms and un-touristy facets lend Vikram Vedha 's chases and brawls a spellbinding energy, one that P S Vinod's glossy camerawork duly captures alongside the ethical ambiguities amidst light, shadows and symbolism while Amethi born Manoj Muntashir's dialogues season it with local flavour.
There's something almost Shakespearean about the pursuit of judgement in Vedha's stories.
A line from Hamlet , 'Foul deeds will rise, though all the earth o'erwhelm them, to men's eyes' offers a profound summary to all the back and forth Vikram goes through before stumbling upon the unsettling truth.
When we first see him, catching up with colleagues cuts to coldly fired bullets as part of a staged encounter operation that he guiltlessly covers up in his good guy conceit.
When we first see Vedha, he pretty much offers himself to them only to narrate the first chapter of his flashback trilogy.
Vedha finds a justification for his actions in Vikram’s answers.
Vikram learns the importance of asking questions around Vedha.
Both have loved.
Both have lost.
Both are betrayed.
One's a bike nerd, another has a thing for Raj Kapoor's songs.
It's a fascinating equation between two people who can never become friends but well on their way to becoming soulmates in hell.
Meanwhile, unfamiliar (with the exception of Sharib Hashmi, Satyadeep Mishra) but compelling faces portraying good, bad and ugly men occupy Vikram Vedha 's heavily male-dominated universe.
There a few chinks in its armour too.
The women are in a staggering minority and the romance between Vedha's kid brother and his childhood sweetheart, featuring a horribly miscast Rohit Saraf and clueless Yogita Bihani is one of the film's weakest, clumsiest, arcs.
Juggling between Vikram's wife and Vedha's lawyer, the lovely Radhika Apte does her bit as a woman caught in a crossfire. (See if you can spot Michael Palmer's Extreme Measures , a thriller about ethics among their bedroom reads.)
But it's Vikram's casual sexism, almost gaslighting his better half over a conflict of interest yet showing no qualms in exploiting her to gain information on Vedha that explains the deepening greys in his attire. Spiffy Saif nails these scenes.
Vikram's righteous arrogance reminded me of Amitabh Bachchan's cop in Aakhri Raasta .
He, too, (has daddy issues and) doesn't think twice before using his girlfriend to seek his mark's whereabouts.
Bachchan's wronged avenger from his 1986 double role resonates in Hrithik's towering aura and composed scorn as well.
Mostly though, Hrithik's Vedha is a feral, fierce beast going bonkers with the idea of settling scores and cutting loose. His item-esque song and dance turn in Alcoholia makes unhinged look like an art form.
A screenplay and superstar in perfect tandem, it doesn't get better than this.
Pushkar-Gayathri's entertaining remake is in complete possession of its two sides of the same coin tussle but smartly leaves the onus of figuring out the outcome of its final catch-22 on the audience.
Once again, Betaal has our back.

Ved is a beautiful film. It is better than Majili in many places. The movie, however, sticks to the adaptation. This is even when Ved could have ended many scenes before, making it more powerful than it currently is. Ved may have multiple shortcomings. in fact, there is a high probability that many viewers will be offended by the movie's underlying messaging; however, the manner in which it expressed human emotions and represented distinct characters and their dynamics is, at the very least, praiseworthy.. Regarding praises, Genelia D'Souza deserves the lion's share, in my humble viewpoint.

An interesting coincidence is that the film is a remake of the Telugu romantic film Majili, starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who happened to be a real-life couple too (separated now).
