'పిజ్జా 3' కథేంటి? నలన్(అశ్విన్ కాకుమాను) ఓ రెస్టారెంట్‌కి యజమాని. కాయల్(పవిత్రా మారిముత్తు) అనే యాప్ డెవలపర్‌తో ప్రేమలో ఉంటాడు. తమ పెళ్లి గురించి మాట్లాడాదమని ఆమె అన్నయ్యని కలిస‍్తే నలన్‌ని అవమానిస్తాడు. నలన్ రెస్టారెంట్‌లో వింత వింత సంఘటనలు జరుగుతుంటాయి. అతడికి తెలిసిన కొందరు వ్యక్తులు వరసగా అనుమానాస్పద రీతిలో చనిపోతుంటారు. అయితే ఈ మరణాలకు ఓ దెయ్యంతో సంబంధం ఉంటుంది. మరి ఆ ఆత్మ ఇంతమందిని చంపడానికి కారణమేంటి? చివరకు ఏమైందనేదే 'పిజ్జా 3' స్టోరీ.

ఎలా ఉందంటే? 2012లో ఏ మాత్రం అంచనాల్లేకుండా రిలీజైన 'పిజ్జా' సూపర్‌హిట్ అయింది. ఈ సినిమాతో నటుడిగా విజయ్ సేతుపతి, దర్శకుడిగా కార్తీక్ సుబ్బరాజ్ బోలెడంత క్రేజ్ తెచ్చుకున్నారు. ఆ తర్వాత ఏడాదే(2013) 'పిజ్జా 2' వచ్చింది. కానీ ఫస్ట్ పార్ట్‌లా సక్సెస్ కాలేకపోయింది. దాదాపు పదేళ్ల తర్వాత ఈ ఫ్రాంచైజీలో వచ్చిన మూడో పార్ట్ 'పిజ్జా 3- ద మమ్మీ'. అయితే ఎలాంటి ప్రమోషన్స్‌ లేకుండా తెలుగులో తాజాగా ఈ మూవీ రిలీజైంది.

ఫస్టాప్ విషయానికొస్తే.. చిన్న సైజ్ ఈజిప్ట్ మమ్మీ బొమ్మ చూపించే సీన్‌తో సినిమాని మొదలుపెట్టారు. ఓ ఫ్యామిలీలోని తండ్రి దగ్గరున్న ఆ బొమ్మ.. అనుకోకుండా రెస్టారెంట్ నడుపుతున్న నలన్ దగ్గరకు చేరుకోవడం, పనివాళ్లు దాన్ని తీసి ఓ చోట పెట్టడం, దీంతో రాత్రుళ్లు ఆ రెస్టారెంట్‌లో వింత వింత శబ్దాలు రావడం లాంటివి జరుగుతూ ఉంటాయి. మధ్యమధ్యలో హారర్ సీన్స్ వస్తుంటాయి. మరోవైపు నలన్‌కి తెలిసిన వ్యక్తులు చనిపోవడం లాంటి సీన్స్‌తో నడిపించారు.

ఇంటర్వెల్ టైంకి దెయ్యాన్ని చూపించి కాస్త ఆసక్తి క్రియేట్ చేశారు. సెకండాఫ్‌లో అసలు ఆ దెయ్యం ఎందుకు హత్యలు చేస్తోంది? ఈ మొత్తం వ్యవహారంతో హీరో నలన్‌కి లింక్ ఏంటనేది రివీల్ చేశారు. ఇంటర్వెల్ వరకు పెద్దగా రివీల్ చేయకుండా స్టోరీని సాగదీసిన దర్శకుడు.. సెకండాఫ్ కోసం మొత్తం కంటెంట్‌ని దాచిపెట్టుకున్నాడు. పోనీ అది కొత్తగా ఏమైనా ఉందంటే లేదు. ఇప్పటికే చాలా హారర్ సినిమాల్లో వాడేసిన స్టోరీ లైన్‌తోనే సినిమా తీశారు. అక్కడక్కడా భయపెట్టినా, పెద్దగా ఎంటర్ టైన్ చేయలేకపోయారు.

సినీ ప్రేమికులు ఇప్పటికే వందల కొద్దీ హారర్ సినిమాలు చూసి రాటుదేలిపోయారు. ఇలాంటి వాళ్లని భయపెట్టాలంటే ఏదైనా కొత్తగా ప్రయత్నించాలి. అలా కాదు రెగ్యులర్ రొటీన్ స్టైల్‌లో తీస్తాం అంటే కుదరరు. ఈ మూవీ విషయంలో రొటీన్ ఫార్మాట్‌నే డైరెక్టర్ ఫాలో అయిపోయాడు. క్రికెట్ బంతి తగలడం వల్ల అమ్మాయి మెమొరీ లాస్, 250 డిగ్రీల ఉష్ణోగ్రతలో మనిషి చనిపోయినా సరే అతడి శరీరంలో పెద్దగా మార్పులు రాకపోవడం లాంటి సీన్స్‪‌లో ఎందుకో లాజిక్ మిస్ అయ్యారని అనిపించింది. 'పిజ్జా' అనే పేరు కూడా హైప్ కోసమే పెట్టారు తప్పితే దీనికి సినిమాకు ఎలాంటి సంబంధం లేదు.

ఎవరెలా చేశారు? ఇందులో నలన్ అనే పాత్రలో నటించిన అశ్విన్ కాకుమాను ఫరిది మేరకు యాక్ట్ చేశాడు. అతడి లవర్ కాయల్‌గా చేసిన పవిత్రా మారిముత్తుకు పెద్దగా స్కోప్ దొరకలేదు. కథకు కీలకమైన రోల్స్‌లో నటించిన అభి నక్షత్ర, అనుపమ కుమార్ పర్వాలేదనిపించారు. మిగిలిన వాళ్లందరూ ఓకే ఓకే. హీరోహీరోయిన్ దగ్గర నుంచి ఎవరి యాక్టింగ్ కూడా ఏమంత గొప్పగా అయితే లేదు.

టెక్నికల్ విషయాలకొస్తే హారర్ సినిమాకు మ్యూజిక్ చాలా కీలకం. 'పిజ్జా 3' చిత్రంలో సంగీతం పరంగా పాస్ మార్కులే పడ్డాయి. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ మరింత బెటర్‌గా ఉండాల్సింది. ఫస్టాప్ నిడివి విషయంలో ఎడిటర్ కాస్త దృష్టి పెట్టుంటే బాగుండేది. నిర్మాణ విలువలు స్థాయికి తగ్గట్లు ఉన్నాయి. ఫైనల్‌గా దర్శకుడు మోహన్ గోవింద్ గురించి చెప్పుకోవాలి. హారర్ సినిమా అంటే రొటీన్‌గా దెయ్యం, దానికి ఓ ప్లాష్ బ్యాక్ అన్నట్లు కొత్తగా ట్రై చేసి ఉండాల్సింది.  ఓవరాల్‌గా చెప్పుకుంటే 'పిజ్జా 3' చూడటానికి బాగానే ఉన్నా.. దెయ్యం మాత్రం పెద్దగా భయపెట్టలేదు.

The third movie in the Pizza series, Pizza 3: The Mummy, recently debuted in Telugu. The movie, which was directed by Mohan Govind, features Pavithrah Marimuthu and Ashwin Kakumanu in the key roles.

Plot: Restaurant owner Nalan (Ashwin Kakumanu) is madly in love with Kayal (Pavithrah Marimuthu). A developer named Kayal is working to make an app that can speak with ghosts. Prem, the police officer brother of Kayal (Gaurav Narayanan), dislikes Nalan. A few strange things start happening in the restaurant all of a sudden.

The crew at the restaurant believes that Nalan is the one who made the sweet because it keeps turning up in the kitchen every day. Nalan, however, who has no knowledge of the food, begins to perceive bad energy in the kitchen. What took place next? The spirit is hiding in the kitchen, why? What does it exactly need? This is a key component of the movie’s plot.

Performances: The movie has a slow beginning, but it quickly picks up the pace with intriguing features. Excitement is generated by the sequences in which the main character and his employees encounter paranormal activity.

In the first hour, a couple of killings occur, and they are compellingly portrayed. The impact of a few scenes was significantly increased by the background score. In the movie, Ashwin Kakumanu delivered a competent performance. He skillfully displayed a range of emotions.

Despite having limited screen time, the lead actress, Pavithrah Marimuthu, did a respectable performance. As an officer, Gaurav did okay. Both Kaali Venkat and Abhi Nakshatra performed satisfactorily in their assigned tasks. Thank goodness the creators avoided include any pointless love tunes.

Technicalities: The film is a fairly nice one technically. Prabhu Raghav’s stylish cinematography perfectly complements Arun Raj’s powerful background score. The editing, particularly in the second half, should have been better despite the high production qualities.

Regarding Pizza 3, the director Mohan Govind performed a passable job. He has attempted to add a few thrills to a plot that is built on a template. At first, it was successful, but ultimately, the movie is just another revenge story.

Analysis: The movie’s first half is passable and skillfully jam-packed with exciting sequences and real jump scares.

While the first hour was passable, the second hour struggled to keep viewers’ interest. The staging of the scary moments and the background music are largely responsible for the first half’s success, but once the evil spirit’s origin tale is revealed, the film loses its tension.

In Pizza 3, a family is murdered, and, as in many other horror films, their ghosts seek retribution for the evil done to them. So, we can readily predict what will happen at the end even before the backstory begins.

To make this formulaic horror story intriguing, the creators ought to have added some surprises here. Additionally, the flashback segments feel a little strained. An ordinary second half and a disappointing finale ruined what otherwise may have been a respectable horror film.

Verdict: Pizza 3: The Mummy is primarily a routine vengeance thriller with a few exciting scenes. The movie’s first half featured some intriguing scenes, but the second half’s repetitive flashback sequences crush the anticipation that had built up until that point. The background score is good, and Ashwin Kakumanu, Pavithrah Marimuthu, and others did well. But as was already noted, the movie doesn’t provide anything new.

Pizza 3 Review: Routine to the core

The Telugu version of Pizza 3: The Mummy, the third film in the Pizza series, has hit the screens today. Directed by Mohan Govind, the film stars Ashwin Kakumanu and Pavithrah Marimuthu in the lead roles. Let’s see how it is.

Nalan (Ashwin Kakumanu) owns a restaurant, and he is head over heels for Kayal (Pavithrah Marimuthu). Kayal is an app developer who is trying to create an app that can communicate with spirits. Kayal’s brother Prem (Gaurav Narayanan), a Police officer, doesn’t like Nalan. All of a sudden, a few mysterious things start happening in the restaurant.

A sweet keeps appearing in the kitchen every day, and the restaurant’s staff believe that it is Nalan who prepared the dish. But Nalan, who doesn’t have any clue about the dish, starts seeing an evil spirit in the kitchen. What happened next? Why is the spirit hiding in the kitchen? What exactly does it require, forms crucial crux of the film.

On-screen performance:

The first half of the film is okay and is neatly presented with thrilling scenes and genuine jump scares. Though the film starts on a slow note initially, it picks up the pace with interesting elements. The scenes in which the protagonist and his staff experience the paranormal activity creates excitement.

A few murders take place in the first hour, and they were depicted in an effective manner. The background score was instrumental in enhancing the impact of a few sequences.

Ashwin Kakumanu gave a neat performance in the film. He neatly emotes all different emotions.

The leading lady Pavithrah Marimuthu did a decent job though her screen time is less. Gaurav as a cop, was fine. Kaali Venkat and Abhi Nakshatra were adequate in their respective roles. Thanks the makers, they didn’t add any unnecessary deviations.

Off-screen talents:

While the first hour was decent enough, the second hour failed to hold the attention. The first half works mainly due to the staging of the horror scenes and good background score, but the movie becomes unexciting with the reveal of the backstory of the evil spirit.

Just like many other horror films, here in Pizza 3, too, a family gets killed, and their spirits set out to take revenge for the injustice that happened to them. So right from the scene the backstory commences, we can easily guess what is going to happen over the end.

This is where the makers should have brought in some twists and thrills to make this predictable horror thriller interesting. Also, the flashback portions are a bit stretched. What otherwise could have been a decent horror flick was let down by a routine second half and a bad climax.

Technically the film is pretty good. Arun Raj’s impactful background score is nicely blended by Prabhu Raghav’s cool cinematography. The production values are good, but the editing could have been better.

Coming to the director, Mohan Govind, he did an okay job with Pizza 3. He has taken a template-based story and tried to coat it by adding a few thrills. It worked well initially, but in the end, the film is just another revenge drama.

In an overview, Pizza 3: The Mummy is a routine revenge drama that has a few thrilling moments. The film’s first half had some intriguing scenes, but the same old flashback portions in the latter half kill the excitement created. As mentioned above, the film doesn’t offer anything new to the audience.
