Participants can use the group chat to communicate in real-time with other participants, ask questions, conduct polls, or make comments, all without interrupting the class.

Breakout groups

Have an exercise that requires smaller groups or individual work? Split the participants into breakout groups. Members of each group can only hear and see each other. Simply merge the groups together again when you’re done. As the teacher, you can easily move from one group to another.

Session history

The session history is available after each virtual class session. It contains links to all the files and documents shared during the class session. It also includes the chat history so you can review the comments, questions, and feedback of the participants.

Schedule, invite, prepare

Schedule a session ahead of time and send an automatic invitation with the time and date of your virtual class. To join the class session, participants just click on the link in the invitation. You can enter your virtual classroom to prepare your Workspace any time before the class scheduled start time.

Ask question and "I am done"

Participants can use dedicated buttons if they have a question to ask or to indicate they have finished working on a task.

Audio only session

Participants can see and hear the host but their camera will be automatically turned off when joining the session

Email notifications

Teachers and users are notified by email when they are invited to join a class, if a class is rescheduled, and when itś time to start the class. After a virtual class is finished, each participant receives a summary email containing all the documents, images and links that were shared in the Workspaces during the session.

Invite participants when you schedule a session, at the start of the session, or anytime during the session. Invitations with the room link will be sent to the email address of the invitees.

A New Room for Zoom

Introducing the focus room in mckeldin library for private, productive work sessions.

Library users have a new space to block out distractions and get their work done this fall. The Focus Room, located near the public computers on the 1st floor of McKeldin Library, provides relative privacy and soundproofing making it an ideal location for phone and video calls. The room features a height-adjustable desk, task light with embedded wireless charging, built-in power with outlets and USB ports, and a whiteboard. It is constructed out of materials engineered to reduce noise by 27dB, muffling sounds from the outside and preventing others from hearing the conversation taking place inside. The space is also equipped with a quiet three-fan ventilation system and HEPA filtration to filter out allergens, dust, and other harmful particles and continuously circulate fresh air. 

The room can be used by 1 person at a time and can be reserved online by UMD users for up to 4 hours. The Libraries is testing this new flexible work space in McKeldin Library as a way to help meet the demand for private spaces for video conferencing and is seeking users’ feedback. Other spaces for quiet individual study are also available on floors 4, 6, and 7 of McKeldin Library for reservations in 4-hour and 8-hour increments, as well as first-come, first-served study carrels on the 3rd floor of McKeldin Library.

The Buffalo Bills have created some cap space heading into the regular season, restructuring the contracts of two defensive linemen on Tuesday morning.

ESPN’s Field Yates reports that Buffalo has restructured the contracts of defensive end A.J. Epenesa and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, creating $2.78 million in salary cap space. Both of these deals just hit the Bills’ books this offseason; the team re-signed Epenesa to a two-year, $12 million deal in mid-March, inking Jones to a two-year, $16 million extension shortly thereafter.

The Bills restructured the contracts of DE A.J. Epenesa and DT DaQuan Jones, creating $2.78M in cap space. The 49ers restructured the contract of DT Maliek Collins, creating $5.432M in cap space. These restructures likely aren’t indicative of a forthcoming roster move, but rather a means through which to create financial breathing room should the team be forced to make a personnel maneuver at some point during the season. General manager Brandon Beane has long spoken about the importance of having wiggle room in-season, which is something these restructures help assure; Buffalo, per OverTheCap , is still $395,000 over the salary cap, but it does not look as though the outlet has updated the team’s books post-Epenesa and Jones restructures. These restructures may bring the team back under the cap, with further moves still possible ahead of kickoff, if desired.
