1. Case Management
Case management nurses handle long- and short-term disability claims for patients. They collaborate with physicians, employers, and insurance companies to help facilitate communication and ensure compliance among all the parties involved.
Ultimately, their goal is to help coordinate treatment and funding so that a return-to-work goal can be established and met.
Since most of their work can be done over the phone or through email, case management is a perfect work-from-home position for skilled and experienced nurses who are familiar with the healthcare industry.
2. Insurance Claims
Making the transition from caregiving to working as an insurance claims specialist can be more natural than you might think. And, working for a health insurance company can allow more job flexibility.
Health insurance companies need people with healthcare knowledge to examine and investigate claims to determine whether or not certain procedures are covered. They also work to decide how much money the insurance company is required to pay for each claim.
Healthcare professionals already have this knowledge, and nurses are also familiar with medical records, treatment plans, and other details insurance adjusters aren’t typically familiar with.
Your background in nursing will help you make informed decisions in the best interest of patients, medical providers, and insurance companies. And, of course, you can work from home.

3. Telephone Triage Nurse
Busy medical facilities and doctors often run triage by telephone. This allows highly qualified nurses to speak with patients, assess their symptoms, and recommend the best course of action before they show up to receive healthcare services.
Triage nurses can often answer patient questions, preventing unnecessary visits and keeping other healthcare professionals and support staff focused on the patients in the clinic.
The telephone triage system helps handle less urgent problems more efficiently so that resources are appropriately distributed. Tele-nurses can work at home and still contribute directly to patient care. They provide valuable medical advice to patients with a wide variety of problems.
Of course, you’d need nursing experience in a clinical setting before taking on this home nursing job. Some clinics hire both BSN and ADN nurses.
You can also think beyond your local medical clinics and hospitals when searching for these kinds of nurse jobs. Some national companies like CVS Pharmacies hire telephonic nurses to help their customers.
4. Nursing Informatics
This exciting new branch of healthcare uses technology to improve patient care and create a better healthcare system. Informatics works to find innovative intersections between technology, communication, and healthcare systems to move the entire industry forward. Nursing informatics examples include innovations like telehealth, telemedicine, and electronic health records.
If you are interested in changing the system by developing and implementing new solutions, you may be able to use your nursing degree in health informatics.
Because the field is constantly evolving and taking shape, there is plenty of room to grow, explore your interests, and help create your position.
As a nursing informaticist , you could serve as a nursing consultant to give a nurse’s perspective on new technology systems. You could help build databases to track patient outcomes. You could even write computer programs to help other healthcare professionals better serve patients.
You’d need at least a bachelor’s degree, but most employers prefer nurses with master’s degrees. Increasingly, informaticists have Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degrees.

5. Call Center Nurse
While telephone triage and call center nurses are closely related, a call center position doesn’t require as much nursing experience.
A home-based call center nurse will be in charge of direct calls to the appropriate parties, but he or she won’t be responsible for direct patient care.
Essentially, this is more of an administrative role than a telemedicine role, but medical and healthcare companies will give candidates with medical backgrounds the edge when it comes to hiring.
Keep in mind that fewer responsibilities also mean lower pay.
6. Freelance Nurse Writer
Medical writing is a challenging field that requires extensive knowledge of medical terminology and procedures along with strong writing skills.
Many nurses who enjoy writing have found freelancing to be ideal for remote work.
It also serves an important purpose: The medical field relies on a variety of well-researched materials that are used among professionals and published and distributed to the general public.
Writers may be tasked with putting together promotional materials, journal articles, press releases, and much more.
Businesses today rely heavily on website content and online news stories to connect with potential customers and promote their goods and services. An experienced medical writer can be an essential part of a successful medical website, facility, or drug manufacturer.
7. Nurse Educator
Teaching isn’t for everyone, but as a nurse educator , you could have a huge impact on the profession by helping make sure students enter the workforce armed with the skills and knowledge all nurses should have.
Institutions of higher education throughout the United States have busy nursing degree programs, but they also have different educational requirements for faculty members. Some community colleges may hire nurse educators who have only a bachelor’s degree, while others require master's degrees to teach.

8. Legal Nurse Consultant
Nurses who want to apply their experience in another profession may want to consider becoming a legal nurse consultant.
Nurses who work for law firms help attorneys and paralegals understand the medical angle of personal injury and other kinds of lawsuits. They can also help with Medicare and health insurance lawsuits.
Since you could do most of this work via Zoom or cellphone, this is an ideal remote nursing position that extends beyond the clinical setting.
9. Nurse Recruiters
All nurses know the importance of proper unit staffing. As a nurse recruiter, you could help hospitals keep adequate staffing levels which helps bedside nurses provide the best care possible.
And, of course, this is an ideal role for the stay-at-home nurse. Some hospitals have their own nurse recruiters, while others use third-party recruitment services.
Most nurse recruiters interview candidates and act as liaisons between the unit and the candidate during the hiring process.
Like nurse educators, healthcare recruiters can help shape the profession by finding qualified applicants for hospitals, doctor’s offices, and even home healthcare providers.
10. Clinical Research Nurse
Many healthcare facilities and teaching hospitals have clinical research programs. These programs help medical professionals gather research to develop new medical treatments and help practitioners learn more about disease prevention.
Clinical research is a great way for clinicians to help develop life-saving medications, treatments, and vaccines. They help develop and facilitate studies to provide information about new medical procedures and medications.
Some of the research-related tasks that a remote clinical research nurse performs may include:
- Overseeing clinical trials
- Recruiting trial participants
- Educating and training research staff
- Administering questionnaires to clinical trial participants
- Writing grant applications
- Speaking with clinical trial participants to explain procedures and listening to concerns
- Keeping detailed records with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Writing articles and researching reports
Nurses no longer need to commit to a career in bedside nursing or home care positions.
Now, registered nurses are in demand in many different sectors of the economy, including the legal, technology, and insurance professions - many of which also offer work-at-home positions.
You don’t have to work in a hospital or medical office to provide valuable care for patients and earn a competitive wage. And with the growing demand for telehealth due to COVID-19, there are more remote job opportunities than ever before.
If working from home as a nurse is something you aspire to do, you have many options! It is possible to provide quality nursing care and enjoy a flexible schedule where you can work from home.

Remote work and telehealth gained traction during the pandemic, and patients and healthcare providers embraced its convenience and accessibility. Remote work and telehealth appeals to work-from-home nurses, particularly parents, who need to maintain a work-life balance and require flexibility .
Telehealth can have different meanings depending on the provider, but in general it is the long-distance delivery of healthcare that relies mainly on electronic communication like video conferencing or online platforms. Remote work does not necessarily include delivery of healthcare services but can include other nursing-related jobs such as freelance writing.
A nationwide shortage of nurses has led to 2019-2029 job growth rate projections of 7% for registered nurses (RNs) and 52% for nurse practitioners (NPs) from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics . Individuals in rural areas and elderly, home-bound patients benefit from telehealth services, leading to increased demand for telehealth professionals.
MSN programs take 2-3 years to complete, and typical application requirements include a BSN, an RN license, a 3.0 GPA, GRE scores, and 1-2 years of nursing experience. Each licensure applicant must pass a national examination in their specialty area from an organization such as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners , American Nurses Credentialing Center , or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board .
Frequently Asked Questions
What jobs can rns do from home.
RNs can find remote work in telephone triage , legal consulting, nurse education, freelance writing on nursing topics, and nursing informatics . Other positions include checking insurance claims for coverage, overseeing clinical trials, and recruiting healthcare staff. Telehealth options include seeing patients during virtual visits or preparing them for physician consultations.
Can nurses do telemedicine?
Work-from-home nurses often provide telehealth services, such as scheduling appointments, providing referrals, and consulting with and advising patients through phone and video calls. Patients can log on for face-to-face visits with their practitioners to discuss physical and mental health concerns.
How much do telemedicine nurses make?
According to PayScale , telehealth nurses earn an average base salary of $64,220 as of June 2021. Nurses in the lowest 10% salary bracket make an average of $43,000, while the highest 10% earn $78,000. Experience pays for telehealth nurses, and those with more than 10 years on the job can see a significant climb in their incomes.
How do I become a virtual nurse?
Telehealth nurses must possess an RN license, which requires an associate degree in nursing (ADN) or a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) and a passing score on the National Council Licensure Examination for RNs (NCLEX-RN). Virtual nurses undergo training in telecommunication, including video conferencing, email, and messaging. Most practice for a few years caring for patients in person before transitioning to telehealth and earning telehealth certification. Depending on the state and telehealth company, the RN may need to be licensed through a multistate or compact license agreement .
Requirements for Work-From-Home Nursing Jobs
Most work-from-home nursing jobs require an RN license, along with an ADN or a BSN. These undergraduate programs prepare graduates to pass the NCLEX-RN for state licensure.
Nursing school applicants typically need high school diplomas or GED certificates, a 2.5-3.0 GPA, and coursework in anatomy, biology, physiology, and statistics. Students develop skills in patient care, critical thinking, and healthcare resources. An RN looking to advance their career can pursue a master of science in nursing (MSN) to specialize in specific patient populations and areas like healthcare education and administration.
MSN degree -holders experience significant pay increases in more job opportunities. Many become advanced practice registered nurses, a licensure category that includes NPs. NPs perform many of the same duties as physicians, particularly among underserved communities and areas with high patient loads.
MSN programs take 2-3 years to complete, and typical application requirements include a BSN, an RN license, a 3.0 GPA, GRE scores, and 1-2 years of nursing experience. Each licensure applicant must pass a national examination in their specialty area from an organization such as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Credentialing Center, or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.

Hi! I'm Emma, AKA
There is a moment I vividly remember while working in the ER. I was standing at an ice machine and looked to my left knowing the ambulance bay doors were in that direction. There was a brief moment where I wondered if anyone would miss me if I simply walked out and didn’t come back. I thought I was the only one who had those thoughts, but I know better now.

10 Remote MBA Jobs Plus Tips for Working from Home
July 4, 2024
View all blog posts under Articles
Remote work has long been a coveted perk for employees looking to cut back on their commutes, be closer to their families, and work from the comfort of their own homes. Now, the desire to work from home combined with new, better telecommunications technology such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams have made remote working almost the norm.
Today, many jobs can be done remotely, so the question isn’t which work-from-home positions are available, but rather which are right for your degree. If you have a master’s in business administration , there are numerous jobs where your expertise is needed and where you can work from home.
You should consider the following factors when searching for remote MBA jobs, including the benefits of remote work, some positions to look for, and tips for staying productive.
Perks of Remote Jobs for MBA Grads
Working from home is an attractive option for employees for several reasons. First, it eliminates commute time, which for many people puts at least an hour of productive time back into their day. This can also translate into getting more sleep and having a more flexible schedule
According to the 2022 State of Remote Work survey by Buffer, 97% of the 2,118 people polled said they would like to work remotely (full-time or hybrid) for the rest of their careers. Additionally, 90% described their experience with remote work as either very or somewhat positive, while only 1% said their experience is somewhat negative. The data clearly shows people enjoy remote work and want to continue.
Working from home can also improve productivity. Modern offices are often filled with distractions that can hinder the typical workday. After taking into consideration unnecessary meetings, water cooler talk, and drop-ins from colleagues, a traditional office environment can almost be counterproductive. Although working from home has its fair share of distractions, remote workers are solving this by creating home offices and work zones that allow them to focus. Since the arrangement was first studied in 2012, modern employees are proving to be more productive when working in a home environment.
Perhaps this is because employees must be accountable for their productivity throughout the day. In a 2020 study conducted by the Harvard Business Review, researchers found remote employees were completing 50% of their work activities by personal choice (because they thought the tasks were important), and just 25% because they were being told to. This shows employees deem their remote work to be important, and the increase in productivity is positive for both employees and employers.
Further validating the benefits of remote work, a 2022 study from Ergotron, the ergonomic workplace pioneer, found that 40% of employees worked longer hours at home than at the office. Additionally, the study revealed that 75% of respondents reported an improvement in work-life balance since they began working from home. This means employees are getting more done and putting in longer hours—but they also feel happier and have more control over their personal lives.
10 Remote MBA Jobs
Now that you know about some of the benefits of working remotely, you’re likely curious about some of the positions where your MBA degree can be best utilized—even if you’re a recent MBA graduate. Here are 10 remote MBA jobs where an advanced degree is preferred (or required) that can easily be performed at home.
1. Marketing Manager
Marketing can be a lucrative career. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), positions for advertising, promotions, and marketing managers are expected to increase by 10% between 2021 and 2031. This faster-than-average growth is due to the consistent need for businesses to expand their brands. A bachelor’s degree is a must for these positions, but an MBA is often preferred. An advanced degree can set you apart from other applicants. Marketing and product managers must be experts on their business’s brand and products, and constantly work to improve them. They operate cross-functionally with finance and other departments to make strategic decisions. With the rise of video conferencing platforms, meeting with remote teams is easier than ever. Similarly, digital marketing tools such as Wrike and Google Analytics help project managers stay on top of content creation, collaboration, and data analysis from their personal desktops. An undergraduate degree in marketing combined with an MBA can help aspiring marketing managers establish a solid foundation for a career with a marketing agency or as part of an in-house marketing department.
2. Financial Advisor
If your passion is helping businesses improve and maintain their financial edge, you can accomplish this goal from behind your keyboard at home. Your MBA education can prepare you with the financial knowledge to produce insightful financial reports and direct investment strategies to meet organizational goals. Having the right technology means you can do all of this remotely. There are many tools that you can use from a laptop, like Microsoft Excel, which is perhaps one of the most popular applications for financial managers. You can collaborate with your team through videoconferencing and easily share reports online. Alternatively, you can work as a freelance advisor who helps businesses with their finances. With the impact of inflation, many businesses and individuals are seeking the expert guidance of financial advisors to help guide them through this challenging time. The BLS projects that the employment of personal financial advisors will grow by 15% between 2021 and 2031, while positions for financial analysts—who primarily support businesses—are expected to grow by 9% over the same period.
3. Sales Consultant
Similar to marketing roles, it’s not always necessary to have an MBA to be a sales consultant, but it can help you earn a higher salary. An MBA and a few years of experience can help you refine your sales skills and prepare you for a remote career path. Today, many businesses have adapted their sales cycles and customer service strategies to accommodate digital processes in place of in-person events. If you work for a consulting firm, you may be using specialized software to monitor sales and market trends to suggest strategy improvements. On the other hand, you could be a self-employed sales consultant who works with clients on a contract basis. As many industries face an uncertain future when it comes to sales, they are looking for innovative ways to improve their processes, which is an opportunity to apply your MBA expertise.
4. Supply Chain Manager
Many jobs in the supply chain sector are hands-on, and not everyone can work from home . Warehouse workers, drivers, and maintenance teams are essential for boots-on-the-ground operations. However, as analytics solutions provider River Logic points out, many office workers, including supply chain managers, can work from home with the right infrastructure in place.
Many supply chain officers use corporate supply chain management software and enterprise resource planning to manage their back-end systems. When these applications are already in the cloud (which most are), setting up remote work is relatively easy. With a secured VPN, you can safely access your company’s network, share documents, and manage supply chain operations all from a home office.
Employment of logisticians, who have a similar role to supply chain managers, is expected to grow by 28% between 2021 and 2031, according to the BLS. The exponential growth of e-commerce will fuel demand for professionals who can oversee and coordinate supply chains.
5. Health Services Manager
Did you know your MBA can be applied in a health care setting? According to the BLS, medical and health services managers plan, direct, and coordinate the business activities of health care providers. They’re not doctors or physicians, but they ensure that operations in health care facilities are efficient.
A master’s degree is preferred in this field, as being a health services manager requires expertise in both business operations and processes specific to the health care industry. It’s also worth noting that opportunities for this position are steadily on the rise. Employment is projected to grow 28% between 2021 and 2031 due to increasing demand for health care services and the need to replace retiring workers.
You don’t even need to step foot in a facility to be a health services manager. Having access to everyday digital workflows and calendars can help you coordinate activities remotely. This is one of the few remote MBA jobs where you can have a hand in saving lives and enriching patient care.
6. Human Resources Manager
HR managers know their position hinges on making connections with employees, and this is still possible while working remotely. Videoconferencing apps and online chats make it simple to book meetings with employees and perform other HR functions such as hiring and interviewing new staff. As long as an HR manager has a steady internet connection and access to their company’s network, they should be able to retrieve the forms they need and access employee records. Should an HR manager need to upload new training materials or a revised employee orientation guide, they can do so remotely using shared drives like Google Drive. While operating remotely as an HR manager, make sure to always let employees know you’re available to chat. Keep some availability in your calendar, and schedule recurring meetings to check the pulse of the rest of the remote office and gain an understanding of how you can continue to improve the employee experience. The BLS projects that employment of HR managers will grow by 7% between 2021 and 2031.
7. Public Relations Director
If you want to practice public relations in an agency setting, a bachelor’s degree will likely be all you need. However, the role of PR director usually requires an MBA. PR directors oversee the PR team and implement strategies to maximize a brand’s presence. It’s easy to collaborate with teams through videoconferencing applications and digital documentation sharing. Similarly, you can continue to monitor brand performance, current market trends, and maintain partner relationships while working from home with as little as a stable internet connection. As a PR director, no two days are the same. Especially during current conditions, it’s important to think outside the box to maintain relationships and share content, something your MBA program can prepare you for. Employment opportunities for PR managers will grow by 8% between 2021 and 2031, according to BLS projections.
8. Information Systems Manager
Information systems professionals determine a business’s information technology goals and implement computer systems to meet them. According to cloud adoption statistics from Zippia, 94% of enterprises use cloud services and 67% of enterprise infrastructure is now cloud-based. Additionally, a reported 92% of businesses have a multi-cloud strategy already in place or are in the process of implementing it. This is good news for information systems managers who are working remotely. When systems are in the cloud, it’s easier to securely access them—even when you’re not in the office—making this an ideal remote job for MBA graduates with technological expertise. The future looks bright for computer and information systems managers, according to the BLS, which estimates the number of positions will grow by 16% between 2021 and 2031.
9. Compensation and Benefits Manager
An MBA can help you find niche positions within businesses, like compensation and benefits coordination. Every company that wants to attract and retain top talent will need a dedicated manager to plan, develop, and oversee programs to compensate employees. Many digital applications exist that make it easy for managers and employees to coordinate compensation, benefits, and perks online. You can easily research and plan compensation programs remotely and take advantage of digital tools and online meetings to track progress or employee engagement. Staying on top of employee benefits trends is also an important aspect of this position in which computers and strong research skills come in handy.
10. Any Executive Position
When applying for executive positions, an MBA and years of experience are essential to stand out from the candidate field. For technology officers, chief marketing officers, and chief financial officers, not only is it important to be an expert in your field, you must also be a leader with a clear vision of how to achieve success. When operating remotely, department and general staff meetings are still possible to foster collaboration and strategize. Use video calls as often as possible to continue making connections with your team and test other tools that can help with information sharing. While the job outlook for executives varies by occupation and industry, overall employment of top executives is projected to grow by 6% between 2021 and 2031, the BLS reports.
Working-From-Home Productivity Tips
Of course, transitioning to a full-time remote role can present challenges, from having to be accountable for your own productivity to distractions such as attention-seeking pets and TVs. Here are some working-from-home productivity tips that can help you stay focused and get the most out of your remote work environment.
1. Have the Equipment You Need
A computer and strong internet connection are necessary when working from home, but they likely aren’t the only things you need. Your organization may have proprietary software or keep special applications behind its firewall that you need to access. Confirm that you can gain entry to all the portals, shared documents, and apps you need to do your job from home. Reach out to your IT department if you run into any issues. Depending on your position, you may require additional hardware, like a financial calculator. Make a list of the equipment you would typically have available in a brick-and-mortar office to ensure you have them at home as well.
2. Create a Designated Workspace
As noted by Jonathon Bacon in Forbes, when working remotely it’s important to stick to your routine as closely as possible. This means adhering to your typical schedule and finding a space that mimics your office setting. While not every home has a designated office space, it’s important to work in a consistent area, like your dining room table or desk in a guest room. Bacon recommends that you avoid working from your bedroom, as your body and mind associate the space with sleep and restfulness.
3. Prioritize a Work-Life Balance
Perhaps one of the most difficult challenges of working remotely is establishing a clear distinction between home life and work. That’s why it’s important to stick to a consistent work schedule and work in an area apart from where you typically relax. Don’t hesitate to take breaks throughout the day like you would at the office, but try to avoid working late into the night.
Elevate Your Career Opportunities with an MBA
A multitude of remote MBA jobs are available in the modern marketplace. Many companies encourage their employees to work from home because they’ve seen the data that shows remote arrangements can improve both work performance and work-life balance, making it a win-win for employees and organizations alike. Remote learning yields many of the same benefits as working from home. Using today’s advanced technology, students can enjoy an engaging and efficient classroom experience that’s 100% online.
It’s never too late to begin your journey in higher education. Learn more about applying for an Online MBA at Washington State University and find out how an advanced degree can kickstart your remote work career.

3 data entry remote jobs that pay up to $200,000+ in 2024.

Data entry jobs are great for professionals who have people anxiety at work
If you're looking for a relatively low-stress job with minimal people exposure or customer-facing work, you will certainly find the idea of remote data entry jobs very appealing.
Not only are data entry jobs attractive because they require less brain-intensive work and people interaction than other white-collar roles, but some data entry jobs can pay exceptionally well too—paying more than the median U.S. income of $59,000.
They can easily be performed remotely, and you can even undertake them as part-time remote jobs, or on a freelance basis where you can choose and set your own hours, projects, and clients.
While the concept of data entry as we have known it is on the decline thanks to AI and the automation of administrative tasks and roles (including that of virtual assistants and administrative clerks) there are other types of data entry jobs that are in demand and require data entry skills.
These roles are not your typical entering-information-into-a-computer work, however they are very similar in nature and some tasks can be quite repetitive. You won't need to engage as much with people as in other roles, which makes these remote data entry jobs great choices for introverts or those with people anxiety.
Here are some data entry remote jobs below, and current salary estimates from Salary.com and Glassdoor at the time of writing:
1. Remote AI Chatbot Trainer
An AI chatbot trainer feeds data to chatbots and trains them to be conversational, enabling them to understand human queries and inputs, and respond to them effectively. To be effective in this role, you need a background in data science, as well as an understanding of NLP (Natural language processing), and machine learning. Programming skills can be helpful too.

Harris will propose $50,000 small business tax deduction for startup expenses: here’s what to know, u.s. open: frances tiafoe sets up all-american semifinal against taylor fritz.
Average salary range: Between $52,000 to $82,000
2. Remote Survey Taker/Researcher
Undertaking surveys and completing research data is another fantastic way to make money from home within data entry, while getting paid for your interests and expertise.
However, it's crucial to approach online surveys with caution. There are many scam and poor quality websites that promise rewards for completing surveys and research tasks, but actually pay very little, if at all, or are not clear as to their requirements for qualifying.
However, if you were to join an expert network—take GLG Insights as an example—you could be paid a set rate for specific surveys that are related to your direct line of expertise. You would simply be inputting data relevant to the questions being asked and the information they require as part of the research. Often, this can be done in as little as half an hour, and is a great way to make make money in data entry, as a side hustle.
If you want to take your passion for research further, becoming an academic research assistant is another great data entry remote job, in which you will be collecting and reviewing data. The position is also extremely lucrative—being one of the highest paying roles you can find within data entry and research.
Average salary range: A survey taker can make as much as $50 per survey, depending on the company they are working with, while academic researchers earn between $47,911 and $419,743 according to Salary.com—most commonly hovering at around $233,827.
3. Remote Project Assistant/Project Administrator
Last but not least, another excellent option for a remote data entry job is a project administrator role, also sometimes known as project coordinator or project assistant, which can be used interchangeably depending on the company you work for.
The industry for project management professionals is growing, with demand steadily rising at 7% according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics —higher than the average job growth rate.
Project administrators handle the administrative duties that enable a project to successfully run smoothly, from scheduling, to handling spreadsheets, to coordinating tasks, to handling the budget. Much of this revolves around inputting data, especially when working with spreadsheets or using project management software. Depending on the specific project and the company you work for, this role may involve more or less people interaction, with some project administrators working on their own for most of the time, while others find that they work more closely with stakeholders.
Average salary range: Between $55,803 and $73,275
Demand for project administrative assistants is rising by 7% over the next few years
Whether training chatbots, undertaking research and surveys, or managing the ins and outs of the administrative aspects of a project, there's never been a better time to find remote data entry jobs.

Man allegedly drugged wife's dinner then invited more than 50 other men over to rape her
Some 51 men are accused of raping Gisèle Pélicot, a mother of three, after she was allegedly drugged by her husband at the family home in Mazan, a commune in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
- 16:23, 2 Sep 2024
- Updated 16:37, 2 Sep 2024
A mum who was allegedly raped by multiple strangers after being drugged by her own husband today faced them all in a packed court room .
Gisèle Pélicot, a 72-year-old French woman, waived her legal right to anonymity on Monday at the opening of the trial of Dominique Pélicot, 71, and 51 other men.
All are accused of aggravated rape in a trial at the Vaucluse Criminal Court, in Avignon, which is due to last for four months. Twenty of them, including Pélicot, are in custody, while the others remain on bail.
Asked to confirm his name and address at the start of proceedings, Pélicot said: "My home is prison, you know it". Ms Pélicot, a mother-of-three, was supported by her adult children as she stood in the public gallery, listening to evidence.
The family home, in nearby Mazan, allegedly became a crime scene over almost a decade, when streams of men were invited to attack Ms Pélicot. Her husband is said to have used an online platform called coco.fr to contact them between 2011 and 2020.
Detectives have listed a total of 92 rapes committed by 72 men, 51 of whom have been identified. They are all being tried alongside Mr Pélicot , a former employee at French utility company, EDF.
In evidence from previous hearings, he said all the men who slept with his wife ‘knew she was drugged’ without her knowledge. Pélicot said ‘all had free will’ and ‘could have left the premises’ at any time.
Presiding Judge Roger Arata announced first thing on Monday morning that Ms Pélicot would be granted her wish for ‘full publicity’ until the end of the trial.
"Proceedings will be public," said the judge, who is president of a bench composed of five professional magistrates. Ms Pélicot’s lawyer, Antoine Camus, said: "She could have opted for a closed trial, but that’s what her attackers would have wanted."
Despite this, it would be a ‘horrible ordeal,’ said Mr Camus, adding: ‘For the first time, she will have to live through the rapes that she endured over ten years.
The Pélicots shared a large family house and – outwardly – were highly respectable pensioners with family members who visited regularly. Neighbours spoke about them as ‘lovely people’ who held parties around their swimming pool, in a well-kept garden, according to court evidence.
In fact, Pélicot was allegedly a serial rapist who moved his family from greater Paris in 1991, and later allegedly set up the sex ring. It involved advertising on a site for ‘partners’ on an online forum called ‘Without Her Knowing’.
Participants would discuss performing acts on unwitting partners, and then film their depravity, before storing the videos on a USB drive dubbed ‘Abuses’. In Pélicot’s case, the data eventually fell into the hand of police, who confirmed it enabled them to identify the 92 cases of rape. Of the 83 men involved, 51 aged between 26 and 73 were identified and arrested by the police.
Pélicot is said to have sedated his wife by putting tablets of a powerful anxiolytic drug into her evening dinner. He then invited strangers from the online forum into the couple's bedroom, so that his wife could be raped while unconscious. All were told to wash their hands, and not to wear aftershave, so she would not sense they were strangers.
Investigators only learned about the horror in 2020, when Pélicot was arrested in a supermarket in Carpentras for filming up the skirts of other customers.
When police searched his camera phone, and equipment kept at his home, they found all of the abuse images. Alleged rapists involved in the case include civil servants, ambulance workers, soldiers, prison guards, nurses, a journalist, a municipal councillor, and truck drivers.
A fireman accused of raping Ms Pélicot wore his uniform during the attack, one video shows. The fireman's computer contained 728 images of children being sexually abused, say prosecutors.
Some of his accomplices claimed they had no idea the sex was not consensual while one denied it was rape, saying: "It's his wife, he does what he likes with her." The trial continues, and is due to last until December 21.

Best of Nizhny Novgorod
Alright, I can almost hear you say: “oh geez man, let me just stay in Nizhny for a few months to make sure that I experience everything you wrote.” I suppose you are right, not all will study in Nizhny, nor work there, some will just pass by and so on. If you do not have months to explore the city, but only a few days, perhaps just one, what then? Where to go and what to eat? Well, without much humility, I would strongly recommend you visit the following spots first and eat at these fine establishments before anywhere else. These are the must haves of Nizhny, according to yours truly!
DO AND SEE!
- See the city’s Kremlin with your own eyes, and maybe visit the State Russian Art Museum there if you have the time.
- Go to the lower side to gawk at the Cathedral of Aleksander Nevsky and all the goodies it holds.
- Spend some time in the gorgeous Switzerland Park and watch a sunset there, or perhaps travel to the stars at Planetarium 1.
- Appreciate the unique ornaments of the State Bank on the main pedestrian street, Bol’shaya Pokrovskaya.
- Walk down Chkalov’s Stairs and then walk along the Volga until you visit the beautiful Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
EAT AND DRINK!
- Savour the finest ramen this city (and perhaps the entire Federation) has to offer at Fukuramen.
- Eat some decent pizza at either Yula or Pech, depending on which bank of the Oka you are exploring at the time.
- Enjoy the company and service of the finest people in town by grabbing a mug of beer in Freakadely.
- Go to Öö if you want to taste the best cocktails in town instead, in an almost hidden basement no less!
- Head to Gellert for the best beer in town as well as some quick and rather affordable grubs.
- Have some Cinnabon rolls at Cinnabon alongside with a hot drink of your choice to survive the Russian winter.
- Try a business lunch at Skoba, with their own unique takes on many modern dishes.
Well, there you go. Almost a year spent in an unassuming “little” Russian city, one that surprised me at every turn, and one that made me say “thank you” to my former self for choosing to come here just a few months earlier. It was an amazing stay to say the least, and I did not even explore the outlying areas of the city, so, in all honesty, this guide can be expanded sometime in the future quite easily. I cannot say for sure whether I will be back to Nizhny at any point, but if I do, I know that I will be happy to do so. It feels quite weird to be able to put months of my experience into such a short guide, but if this will help anyone out there who is willing to come and enjoy this city, then I guess it will be doing its job just right. I wish you all good luck and best of times!
