Examination malpractice is a canker worm that has eaten deeply into Nigerian educational system especially at the tertiary level of education. Hence, this research aimed at finding the frequency of each of the identified examination malpractice by type, gender and faculty. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consists of all the University of Calabar undergraduates (regular programme for 2017/2018 academic session). Stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting 146 students from the faculties of the University. About 40% of the faculties were selected, where 5 % of the students were randomly selected from each of the faculties as sample. The instrument used for collection of data was an inventory called ''Students Examination Malpractice Inventory'' (SEMI). Face validity of the instrument determined by three experts in Educational Psychology and Measurement and Evaluation and had a reliability of 0.73. The collected data were analysed using mean frequency. The study revealed that, the form of examination malpractice where copying from others (collusion) has the highest mean followed by sorting (bribe) with impersonation being the least. Males were more involved in examination malpractice than females. Faculty of Education has the highest level of involvement in three types of examination malpractice followed by Faculty of Social Sciences in two types of examination malpractice and followed by Faculty of Biological Sciences that was highest in one type of examination malpractice. It was recommended among others that Faculty of Education should device means of identifying low quality applicants for admission. This may include oral tests, stoppage of homework assignments as part of the examination or continuous assessment and also objectives questions should be avoided in examination.
The last two decades have witnessed an alarming rate of increase in incidents of examination misconduct especially at secondary school level. Evidences abound of increasing incidents of examination malpractice by students. Examination malpractice has become so widespread that there is virtually no examination anywhere at all levels and even outside the formal school system that there is no one form of sharp practice or the other. Every examination season witnesses the emergence of new and ingenious ways of cheating. This research addresses the forms of examination malpractice, problem of examination malpractice, what sustains it, the consequences of examination malpractice and the ways through which examination malpractice could be curbed in order to give credibility to the examination process.

Cheating in exams and other forms of academic dishonesty have been reported to be a serious issue in many countries. A lot of research has been conducted on the topic, but it focuses mainly on the US context. Studies pertaining to the problem in other countries are rather scarce. The existing research considers the issue from different perspectives. Some studies concentrate on the scope of the problem in a particular country, others choose to research individual and contextual factors in cheating, or students' perceptions of and attitudes towards exam malpractice. The surveys are often restricted to selected nationalities, the questions are limited to the frequency of cheating and they rarely include reference to the methods used. In reaction to the rarity of research on cheating methods among students from different cultural backgrounds, an international questionnaire survey was undertaken. Its aim, among others, was to answer two research questions: (1) What methods do students use to cheat in tests and exams? (2) Are there significant cultural differences in the way students cheat in tests and exams? Students from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, the USA and other countries were asked in an online questionnaire about the methods they have used to cheat in tests and exams. The results of the survey conducted on 1309 students show that there are similarities but also differences between the cultures with reference to the scope and to the methods used to cheat.

Any form of examination malpractice is unacceptable, fraudulent, and signifies an act of academic dishonesty with significant punitive consequences. This paper investigated the reasons why students engage in examination malpractice during examinations at the University for Development Studies (UDS). The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design for this research and targeted undergraduate students of the Tamale Campus of the UDS. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 278 out of a total student population of 6,729 for the study. They responded mainly to questionnaire and a few open ended questions to provide the needed data for analysis. The findings suggest that (i) smuggling of prepared notes on pieces of papers (foreign material) into the examination hall,(ii) writing of examination answers on palms, thighs and other body parts, and (iii) communication by seeking for answers from colleagues are the three topmost forms/methods students engage to cheat during exami...

Examination malpractice is an unwholesome practice encapsulating different types of malicious means adopted by unserious students to cheat during examinations in order to score high marks and pass the examinations. The incidence of examination malpractice has become so endemic that the penalty hitherto melted out to its perpetrators is almost having no statistically significant effects on them. There is an astronomical increase in the number of people and institutions involved in this social malaise. The public has not thought of the effects and the repercussions of their endorsement of examination malpractice. This paper therefore addresses the prevalence of examinations malpractice, the forms and agents involved in examination malpractice. The paper also highlights the effects of examination malpractice on the economy.

7 Effects Of Examination Malpractices On Students
Without exams and tests, would we find it difficult to know what we know? How do exams determine our ability to write and think?
Exam malpractice is not something new. Just like others, we pass through different types of examinations every day; whether formal or informal, external or internal.
The effects that follow examination malpractices could be disastrous to any student. Perhaps, it could trigger a feeling of low self-esteem regarding your academic performance but you’ll never know how threatening it might be unless you are confronted with the consequences firsthand.
So in this article, I will be talking about the effects of examination malpractices on your academic performance.
Malpractices in examination manifest as malpractice in teaching and learning. It is a deviation from the prescribed syllabus, lack of classroom discipline, absence of proper marking of answer scripts, leakages of question papers, and so on.
The negative effects of examination malpractices on a student's academics are obvious and disastrous. Here are some of them listed below:

1. Erosion In The Faith System
The first effect is the erosion of faith in the system. This is because the system is perceived to be unfair.
If the system is unfair, the students will not take the governing rules and regulations seriously.
In such a scenario, students tend to forget all about the values that the system teaches, e.g., honesty, fairness, etc.
2. It Causes Irresponsibilities
The second effect is that students may feel that they do not have to follow all the rules of examinations just because they are being forced to do so as it has no relevance to their lives.
They may even go to an extent of saying that the teachers are only making them follow certain rules and regulations so that they can benefit from it, i.e., get better grades.
3. It Breeds Laziness
The third effect of examination malpractices will be on students' performance in examinations themselves.
The students may start feeling that there is no point in studying hard as there will always be someone who will help them and do all the hard work for them.
4. It Affects Student's Study Habits
The fourth effect of examination malpractices can be very negative to a student's academics.
This can create a domino effect, whereby the stress creates a mental block that affects the student's study habits, and the results are not satisfactory.
This can affect their future as well as their present and in many ways, this could mean the difference between success or failure in life.
5. Inability To Defend Results And Certificates
The fifth effect of examination malpractices on students is that it could affect their future employment opportunities.
They might not be able to defend their results and certificates before their employers leading many graduates to become unemployable.

6. It causes Incompetence
Examination malpractices lead to poor grades. As a result of this, the individual will lose trust in himself/herself and will not be able to perform well in future assignments and tests.
This leads to incompetence and incompetence leads to poor grades and failure in courses which could not only affect his career but also his plans and goals.
7. It Affects The Integrity Of A School Or Institution
Examination malpractices do not only affect students but also the school.
If there are too many cases of examination malpractices that are not addressed by the school it will affect the school's competence and it will lose its ability to attract more students.
Examination malpractices are very evil acts that students use to cheat in examinations.
The consequences of examination malpractices last a lifetime and the negative effects on a student's academics and personality transformation are lasting and real ones.
